Food Donations
The Sacred Heart Mission's prime activity is to supply food too, and cook for the poor and homeless. To assist the Sacred Heart Mission with this ever growing demand for their services, the Sacred Heart Mission Community Cycle will be delivering food to the mission.
What sort of food should I donate?
- Jars of stir through pasta sauce
- Tins of tuna
- Jars of instant coffee
- Jams, peanut butter, vegemite, etc
- Breakfast cereal
- Instant noodle packets
- Cup-of-noodles
- Teabags (black tea, not herbal)
- Long life milk

Please try to carry a selection of foods and not just a backpackfull of 3
minute noodles (yes we know they are light and easy to carry but we don't want
to JUST donate noodles).
Do I have to carry the food with me on the ride?
While we feel that carrying a few kilos of food in a backpack/messenger bag/pannier
is a small price to pay compared to the load that the poor and homeless have
to endure everyday, we do understand that some riders may not be able to carry
the food with them on the 40km ride. With this in mind, we suggest the following
local supermarkets near the Sacred Heart Mission in St Kilda where you can stop
and purchase food prior to donating-
Coles
Acland Court, Acland St
St Kilda
Safeway
117 Acland Street
St Kilda
Renaissance Supa IGA
64 Fitzroy Street
